    I am a versatile and high energy director specialising in the environmental and construction sectors, with extensive experience in corporate governance, strategy & business development, and change management.  I have over 20 years experience of senior level experience in both PLCs and more recently SMEs.  My varied career has encompassed the B2B publishing and exhibition sectors, niche sub-contracting SMEs, environmental consultancy and six years as Managing Director of one of the country's leading hazardous material remediation specialists.  A Chartered Director since 2012, I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.  In 2018 I completed my MBA at Warwick Business School, graduating in the top 10% of my year, and I gained a distinction for my wide ranging dissertation on the state of financial education in the UK.  I have my own bespoke consultancy, Boardroom Evolution, and undertake ad hoc assignments in corporate governance, strategy and business development.  I have been a guest lecturer and guest MBA assessor at Bournemouth University Business School, and in 2013 was voted as South West Director of the Year for Corporate Responsibility.  I am an engaged environmentalist, a Practioner member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment, and I have for many years mentored SMEs in bringing sustainability best practice into their businesses.  I served three years as a member of the IoD committee for my home county of Dorset, and volunteered for both Dorset Business Mentors (a free service to Dorset SMEs for them to gain access to senior professionals) and the Young Enterprise charity.

    I was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1949 Following schooling at the John Neilson Institution in Paisley I studied Western European literature in Portugal (Coimbra) before training as a tax accountant. After a spell working with offshore trust administration I spent two years at Birmingham completing a PhD thesis on Fernando Pessoa and working as a freelance presenter/producer for BBC Radio.
