Chartered Director Network workshop on Strategic Risk Governance
The next Chartered Director network event Thursday, 19 September, is a new style of afternoon workshop followed by informal drinks and networking. This event will qualify for CPD.
The workshop topic of Strategic Risk Governance has being developed specifically for Chartered Directors, in response to Chartered Director feedback. The workshop led by Val Jonas, CEO, Risk Decisions Limited and Neil Britten Chartered Director and Tom Coyne of Britten Coyne Partners is also designed to draw on the experience of Chartered Directors attending.
A June 2013 Study of 41 company failures by Reputability, reported in the FT, found that:
“The root causes of most company failures lie in the boardroom, with a serious skills gap and risk blindness being the most common factors.”
So it’s the board’s responsibility, however:
“… there is very little academic work or methodology around
the real thing that matters for Boards. The … challenge therefore is –
strategic risk. How do you manage and handle strategic risk – the thing that really matters.”
(GAD January 2013)
We believe that this workshop is very timely and highly appropriate for all Chartered Directors. Our objective is to start improving your skills and reducing potential risk blindness and propose useful, practical frameworks and methodologies to help.
The timing for the event is:
16:00 Start (prompt)
19:00 Workshop complete – canapés, refreshments and informal networking
20:00 (latest) Close
The outline agenda for the workshop is:
Session 1: What is strategic risk and how to identify it?
Session 2: The problems with risk registers and how to address them
Session 3: Strategic risk mitigation – governance processes and building organizational resilience
Thanks to the generosity of one of our fellow Chartered Directors the event will be held and hosted in the beautifully restored Sefton’s Barn, The Horse Trust, Speen, Near Princes Risborough, Bucks. HP27 0PP.
